The “Lifting” Concept

For people who are not familiar with the facelift procedure, it may seem strange or even impossible to “lift” the negative signs of aging and reverse the aging process in the lower face with this technique. However, when you consider the effects of gravity on our faces, you can appreciate how it leads to the formation of heavy jowls and a sagging neck with loose skin and muscle. Thanks to innovative technology being used in conjunction with expert surgical skills, the facelift procedure is one of the most effective tools in rejuvenating the face. A facelift involves gentle tightening of the facial skin and underlying tissues to create a smoother contour of the jawline and elimination the jowls. This is achieved through small incisions that hide within the natural contours in front of the ear.

Natural Results

Many actors and celebrities have been splashed across the tabloids with unfortunate results from less than ideal facial cosmetic surgery. The “overdone” facelift results in a pulled, unnatural appearance that sometimes leaves the person looking worse than before the procedure. For too many years, the traditional facelift was the only procedure many surgeons had in their toolbox to address the aging face. However, performing a more aggressive facelift does not necessarily result in a more comprehensive result.

Dr. Haresh Yalamanchili uses the facelift to reverse the effects of gravity on the lower face and neck. The aging changes of the skin, including fine lines, wrinkles, and the loss of volume in the face, must be addressed with separate procedures in order to have a truly natural-looking result. The wind-swept appearance of the face is not something that should be seen in this day and age.

When choosing to undergo the facelift procedure, you should go into your surgery with accurate expectations and understand that a successful facelift should refresh your appearance, not distort the characteristics that make you unique. Our principal goal is to make sure that your results look natural and truly reflect the youthful energy you possess inside.

A Combined Approach

A facelift is often combined with a neck lift, which minimizes sagging around the neck and under the chin, and facial liposuction, which removes fatty deposits in the face and neck for a better-defined contour. Fat transfer can also be used to restore volume to areas that hollow out with age (such as the cheeks or around the eyes) in order to help restore a natural, refreshed appearance.

Your Facelift Options

During your consultation, Dr. Yalamanchili listens to your concerns and goals and helps you decide whether a facelift is the right procedure for you. As with most types of aesthetic surgery, there is no universally “best” approach to a facelift. Instead, different patients may benefit from different versions of the surgery. At the Belage Center, Dr. Yalamanchili offers several options, which can be combined or customized based on your goals:

  • Mid-facelift improves the appearance of the cheeks and other structures of the “midface.” Dr. Yalamanchili performs the mid-facelift with the aid of an endoscope, which means that it requires only very small incisions.
  • Mini facelift is a modified version of the traditional facelift. It’s often appropriate for younger patients or those who are bothered by only mild to moderate facial aging. This option often uses smaller incisions than a full facelift, and it may even be performed using local anesthesia rather than general. Typically, a mini facelift requires less downtime, too.
  • Non-surgical facelift uses a device called Ultherapy® to stimulate the skin’s own regenerative processes, creating a well-toned, tighter, and more resilient profile thanks to the power of ultrasound energy. This option doesn’t require any incisions or recuperation time.

No matter what treatment you’re interested in, we present you with all of your options and help guide you toward the right cosmetic care plan. Dr. Yalamanchili is available to answer all of your questions about facelift surgery. Visit his Questions About Facelift page to get started. When you schedule a personal consultation, our team takes as much time as needed to make sure you fully understand all of the important details about this treatment option.

A Comfortable Recuperation

Recuperating after facelift surgery is usually a relatively comfortable process. For the first few days, it’s advisable to keep your head upright as much as possible in order to minimize excessive swelling. You may also need to sleep upright or with your head propped up on pillows during this time. Discomfort is usually quite manageable with prescribed medication. At your follow-up appointment, typically scheduled a week after your surgery, Dr. Yalamanchili removes your bandages. After about 2 weeks, you may comfortably return to work. Keep in mind that each patient tends to heal on his or her own personal timeline. In the days and weeks following your surgery, Dr. Yalamanchili will gradually clear you for exercise, sexual activity, sun exposure, and other activities that are restricted immediately following surgery.
