Reshaping nasal tip

Before

After

This 25-year-old woman was unhappy with her nasal tip. She felt that it “drooped” and made her nose look too long. She underwent a rhinoplasty with reshaping and repositioning of the nasal tip which gave her a more refined, better-proportioned nose. View more photos of Dr. Yalamanchili’s real patients.

Reducing dorsal hump and elevating the nasal tip

Before

After

This young woman wanted a “refinement” of her nose as she was unhappy with her profile. Specifically, she did not like the bump on the bridge of her nose, and the fact that her tip was under-rotated (i.e.” turned down”). Rhinoplasty was performed in which the profile was made more aesthetically pleasing by removing the dorsal hump and increasing the rotation of the tip of her nose. Benefits of Rhinoplasty

People who are not happy with the size or shape of their noses often feel particularly self-conscious. Rhinoplasty, sometimes called a nose job, in our Houston cosmetic center may not only improve the appearance and function of your nose, but it also can have a significant impact on revealing a more confident you. Dr. Yalamanchili performs rhinoplasty to improve many different aspects of the nose including one or a combination of the following:

  • High nasal bridge (also called a hump)
  • Low nasal bridge
  • Drooping tip
  • Wide tip
  • Bulbous tip
  • Long noses
  • Short noses
  • Wide nostrils
  • Over or under the projected tip
  • Large nose
  • Small nose
  • Crooked nose
  • Deviated septum

Because the nose is the defining feature of your face, even small adjustments can have a great impact on your overall appearance. Of course, there are many different subtle and not-so-subtle characteristics of a nose that can have a great impact on your overall appearance. If you are unhappy with an aspect of your nose, it is possible that nose surgery can address those issues that prevent you from having the nose that you were meant to have.

Personalized Rhinoplasty Consultation

Your consultation is a time for you to get to know Dr. Yalamanchili and show him what you’d like to change about your nose. He will review your medical history, any facial injuries you’ve had, and ask you to describe any breathing problems you are experiencing. He will also examine the inside and outside of your nose. As a board-certified otolaryngologist, Dr. Yalamanchili has specialized training in medical treatment of the nose; therefore, he can improve your breathing along with the appearance of your nose.

Because an attractive face depends on balance among all of the facial features, Dr. Yalamanchili will evaluate how your nose fits in by looking at the projection of your chin on your profile, as well as the width of your forehead, cheeks, and mouth. Using advanced computer imaging, Dr. Yalamanchili can show you how you might look with various changes to your nose, and together you can arrive at the nose shape and size that look natural and attractive on you.

He will discuss in detail the technique he will use to help you achieve your rhinoplasty goals. He will also review extensively how you can prepare for the procedure, as well as what to expect after surgery. You can also find some general information on our pre and post-care pages.

The consultation is the time to ask any questions you might have about the procedure. It also gives you the opportunity to learn more about rhinoplasty costs and recovery following surgery. You can learn more about the operation and get answers to some of the most common questions on our Questions About Rhinoplasty page.

Other considerations that may help you make the most of this visit are described on our Your Consultation page.

Rhinoplasty Techniques

Dr. Yalamanchili customizes each rhinoplasty procedure at his Houston practice based on his physical examination of your nose, your cosmetic goals, and whether or not you are having trouble breathing. Rhinoplasty involves reshaping cartilage and bone to get the desired results. There are 2 primary techniques Dr. Yalamanchili uses for the procedure:

  • Open rhinoplasty: This is the most common technique. In an open rhinoplasty, Dr. Yalamanchili makes a tiny, horizontal incision along the columella, the small strip of skin that separates the nostrils. He then lifts the skin covering the nose, enabling him to see the nasal structures directly. Even though this is an external incision, the resulting scar is barely perceptible.
  • Closed rhinoplasty: Sometimes called endonasal rhinoplasty, this technique involves making incisions on the inside of the nostrils. Instead of having a direct view of the cartilage, Dr. Yalamanchili manipulates the nasal structures from inside. There are no visible scars following a closed rhinoplasty, but the surgery doesn’t provide as much access to the nasal structures and so it isn’t appropriate in some cases.

An experienced rhinoplasty specialist such as Dr. Yalamanchili performs both techniques with skill and precision. He decides whether to use the closed or open approach based on what he thinks is best for each patient.

Rhinoplasty Recovery & Results

After your procedure, you will need someone to drive you home and to stay with you during the immediate recovery period in the first 24 hours. Your ability to care for yourself for the first day or so after your surgery will be limited. For more information about recovery, please see our page on post-operative care.

After a week or so, you should be able to return to light work and most non-vigorous activities. Bruising and swelling may persist for longer but should be greatly diminished by the second week. The expected swelling in the nose takes some time to resolve, but most return to work and social activity after 10 to 14 days. After about three months you will be closer to the final result, but it is important to recognize that the nose will continue to change subtly for up to a whole year.

Revision Rhinoplasty

Women and men come to Dr. Yalamanchili from other practices for revision rhinoplasty when they are not happy with the results of their initial treatments. Dr. Yalamanchili is an experienced revision rhinoplasty surgeon and understands the complex issues posed when dealing with previously altered nasal tissue.

Complementary Procedures

Because of its prominence, people often focus on the nose as the sole factor in creating a facial appearance or profile that they do not like. However, in many cases, the nose is not the only (or even a partial) cause of a less than desired facial appearance. The goal of your rhinoplasty is not just correcting the shape of your nose. Instead, Dr. Yalamanchili strives to help you achieve a balanced profile. Although this can often be accomplished with rhinoplasty alone, there are many instances that require reshaping of the chin and/or neck in order to achieve an optimal result. Chin augmentation with implants or neck liposuction can frequently help create a balanced profile that leads to an attractive face. Dr. Yalamanchili will listen to your cosmetic goals and make recommendations based on his expertise for how you could best reach those goals.

Trust Your Nose to a Specialist

If you are considering rhinoplasty, it is important that you select your surgeon carefully. Your surgeon can make all the difference in the quality of your results. And if you are considering a facial plastic surgery procedure like rhinoplasty, you should pick a surgeon who is board-certified and has sufficient qualifications and experience. Dr. Yalamanchili is board certified not only in facial plastic surgery, but also in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery (the treatment of conditions related to the ears, nose, throat, and neck). This gives him the distinct advantage of understanding the nose inside and out. His years of experience treating complicated nasal breathing problems enable him to create results that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Dr. Haresh Yalamanchili chose to specialize in facial plastic surgery because it allowed him to hone his talents and give the best possible care to every patient.
