Dermabrasion
If you have damaged facial skin with etched expression lines, uneven texture, or the presence of scarring, Dr. Haresh Yalamanchili may recommend dermabrasion. This facial resurfacing procedure can improve the appearance of many facial imperfections. The appearance of deep facial scars (including acne scars), fine lines, and even some deeper wrinkles can typically be improved with a dermabrasion treatment in our Houston center.
To learn more about dermabrasion and find out how it achieves great results without traditional surgery, request a consultation at the Belage Center or call our office to schedule an appointment.
About Dermabrasion
Dr. Yalamanchili uses a high-speed, motorized device to remove the superficial skin layers that are damaged. Once the outer layers are removed, the healthy skin underneath will heal and reveal a rejuvenated facial appearance.
Dermabrasion is slightly more invasive than laser skin resurfacing, but it is often used to treat more extensive skin damage. This technique may also be used to improve existing scars or previous incisions and to make irregularities appear less noticeable. Dermabrasion generally takes about 30 to 60 minutes to perform and can be done in the office with a local anesthetic.

Best Candidates for Dermabrasion
The dermabrasion procedure works best on healthy patients who wish to treat scarring and signs of aging but do not have current acne. It is particularly effective in treating the lines around the mouth (lipstick lines or smoker’s lines). It is not recommended for men and women who have had recent chemical peels, severe sunburns, are prone to develop keloid scars, or have a tendency to heal with hyper- or hypo-pigmentation of the skin. Also, it is very important to notify us if you have been on Accutane within the past 6 months. During your personal skincare consultation, Dr. Yalamanchili will review your health history as well as your current skin condition to determine if you would benefit from dermabrasion.
After Dermabrasion
After dermabrasion, many patients report a smoother skin texture, minimized wrinkles and scarring, and an improved appearance. Dermabrasion results are unique based on each individual’s skin condition and facial issues. Patients can expect downtime of about 2 weeks and will be asked to avoid direct sunlight for several weeks, as well.
